About Steve.
Steve is proud to serve as the Member for Midland in the Parliament of Western Australia. Representing Midland is the honour of his life — a responsibility he believes is earned through hard work, fairness and accountability.
“I know that trust like this is not gifted; it is earned, brick by brick, through hard work, open ears, and the quiet understanding that every conversation, every concern and every hope you share with me is a responsibility I now carry.”
Growing up in Midland, Steve learned the value of work and service from his family. His father, Nick, started as a small business owner in the area before dedicating much of his life to public service. From his family — including grandparents who worked as tradespeople and homemakers — Steve learned that dignity, contribution and opportunity matter, regardless of background or title.
“I learned early that fairness is not handed to you; you fight for it. You build it slowly, imperfectly and relentlessly.”
Before entering Parliament, Steve built a career as a lawyer advocating for working people and small businesses. He stood beside people seeking safer workplaces, fair pay and secure jobs, and contributed to reforms in work health and safety, subcontractor protections, procurement practices and industrial manslaughter laws. This experience continues to shape his belief that fairness must be actively defended, not assumed.
Steve lives in the Midland area with his wife Jana, a pharmacist and small business owner, and their children. Choosing to live and raise a family locally reflects his belief that representatives should share in the everyday lives of the communities they serve.
Our Community.
Steve’s connection to the Midland electorate runs deep. He is proud of the region’s industrial and union heritage — from the Midland Railway Workshops to the generations of skilled workers who helped build the community.
“Midland is not just a suburb or an electorate; it is a story of workers, families and resilience.”
He is equally proud of today’s Midland. A diverse, resilient electorate made up of distinct suburbs, each with its own character and challenges. Steve believes respecting Midland’s history means investing in its future. Supporting growth, opportunity, amenity and strong local services across the entire electorate.
Steve's Values & Vision.
Steve is committed to building a better Midland, where everyone has the chance to thrive. His priorities include:
- Affordable, secure housing
- Better public transport, planning, and local infrastructure
- Strong schools and real support for families
- Quality health services close to home
- Apprenticeships, skills training and local jobs
- Protection of bushland, waterways and green spaces
- Policies grounded in fairness, dignity and inclusion - “no exceptions”
“Here is what I will fight for every single day as the member for Midland: access to affordable housing; better infrastructure, connectivity, planning and public transport; health services and family support that meet people where they are; apprenticeships, skills training and local jobs; protected bushland and waterways; policies written with fairness, dignity and inclusion—no exceptions; and, above all, I will show up, listen and act.”
He believes democracy is strongest when representatives remember they are servants of the people and remain accountable for their decisions.
Looking ahead, Steve wants Midland to continue emerging as a hub of industry, innovation and secure employment as part of a Made in WA economy. He supports revitalising the city centre, responsibly developing under‑used land, and continuing to invest in community facilities and local services that strengthen connection and opportunity.
Above all, Steve promises to show up, listen, act, and work every day to ensure Midland remains a fair and thriving community.
