The Lloyd Street Extension Project will deliver the southern extension of Lloyd Street between its current termination point in Midland (adjacent to Bunnings) and the Great Eastern Highway Bypass. The project includes a new bridge over Helena River and an upgraded, four-way signalised intersection at Abernethy Road, Great Eastern Highway Bypass (GEH Bypass) and Lloyd Street.

The Greater Connect Alliance has commenced various investigations to determine the existing pavement and ground conditions for the new Lloyd Street, Abernethy Road, and the GEH Bypass intersection.

As part of these investigations, surveying and pavement sampling works will be undertaken overnight at the following locations:

• GEH Bypass, between the ARC Rail Bridge and Stirling Crescent
• Abernethy Road, between the GEH Bypass and Ulm Place/Yagine Close roundabout
• Lloyd Street, between the GEH Bypass and Lakes Road (east).

To avoid impacts to daytime traffic, these works will be undertaken between 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday nights, from Sunday 23 August to Monday 14 September 2026.

Works will include:

• Surveying of existing road and roadside features.
• Pavement coring in selected locations to collect samples of existing road surface and underlying layers.
• The use of an excavator to dig test pits and a plate compactor to reinstate material post testing at some locations on GEH Bypass.

Traffic management

To safely undertake these works, overnight single-lane closures will be in place within the work areas.

Signage will be in place to alert motorists to any changed traffic conditions, and reduced speed limits to 40km/h will apply. Drivers are asked to be aware of the changed environment and follow the relevant signage.
